Bollywood's Global Affair: The Cultural Industry and Soft Power

My doctoral research highlighted the distinctive political economy of Bollywood’s mode of production. Bollywood is India’s Hindi film industry and the global face of Indian cinema. The significance of this study is that it is one of the first to investigate Bollywood using the lens of Cultural and Creative Industry (CCI) studies. Bollywood has managed to make its presence felt in the mainstream global cinema market and, as such, the intention with this research is to put forth a scholarship of CCIs from Asia. Academic research on CCI and related policies in India are scant and my research fills this gap with Bollywood as my site of study. This research refines the understanding of cultural industries, particularly from South Asia, since the field of CCI and cultural policy is dominated by Eurocentric definitions and inquiry.
